Take an hour or so to browse the subject in a Barnes and Noble or Borders book store. The section pertaining to that is not very large. Pick up 5 or 6 that look good. There are people who made it in the industry whose proven track records will make you want to read about what they know. Why stick with just one or two? Truth is, there is more than one way to approach the subject. If you read them all, you will not only get a handle on the industry, you will find out what doesn't work as well. Also, there will be common threads you will find in each one. Some will be geared toward more specific industries, perhaps, but the only way to get a real education is to read many. After you read them, why not try to get a junior position in the field where someone who sees how much you are educating yourself would agree to mentor you?

A public relations manager is a more senior level public relations specialist. A manager provides more strategic oversight while managing the specialist's work.

No degree in whatsoever can teach you public relations. I think it is very inborn thing. The best example of Public Relations are stewards or waitors. have you seen them working? have you seen their two faces ever? one face in front of the guest and the other while they go for a pick-up in the kitchen? They can be the best Gurus for any public relation student.
In any field PR is all about knowledge with smile. knowledge comes with degree but more with experiance and smile is something inborne. you get me?

Actually, you're better off with neither. To really succeed in this profession, I highly recommend NOT obtaining a a degree in PR or communications. Instead, pursue a business administration degree with a major in marketing, and then take several PR and journalism classes as electives, or to obtain a minor. The reality is that PR pros need to understand and know all aspects of business inside and out, and no PR or journalism degree can deliver that knowledge.
Secondly, you really need to know how to write, and write well. You also need to know how to spell, and pay attention to detail.
Finally, be prepared to start off with a relatively low annual salary…probably in the high 20s or low to mid-30s. PR pros must pay their dues before working their way up to positions that carry more responsibility and have greater compensation.

Yes. Public relations is a broader term, referring to managing relations between an organization and its publics. This could involve publicity, but it may also cover things like event management and public service. Media relations, on the other hand, is the relationship between an organization and the media. This facilitates publicity, but it doesn't get into any of the broader efforts to connect with the publics which do not use the media.

Yes, they're just different titles for the same basic job.
And yes, your English skills and social skills will be the most important things for you. You will need to be able to write interesting press releases and pitches to various media outlets. The most important English skill will be your ability to be persuasive, so you might want to take classes that focus on how to write persuasively. Your social skills are important because people need to be comfortable with you. Ideally they will be some kind of journalist and will go to you with questions, etc. You also have to be willing to go up to people and talk confidently, etc.
Your math skills will be much less important and shouldn't prevent you from working in this field.

Maybe.
But NOBODY respects the PR guy.
So you'll make an impression, but a bad one.

Sounds like great experience that will speak very well on your resume; perhaps you should be paying him?
I would say that I would do it in exchange for a painting, which will be with you your entire life. Otherwise, as a student, charge $35 to $40 an hour with a cap of not-to-exceed payment for 15 hours.
