Sounds like great experience that will speak very well on your resume; perhaps you should be paying him?

I would say that I would do it in exchange for a painting, which will be with you your entire life. Otherwise, as a student, charge $35 to $40 an hour with a cap of not-to-exceed payment for 15 hours.

Yes, they're just different titles for the same basic job.

And yes, your English skills and social skills will be the most important things for you. You will need to be able to write interesting press releases and pitches to various media outlets. The most important English skill will be your ability to be persuasive, so you might want to take classes that focus on how to write persuasively. Your social skills are important because people need to be comfortable with you. Ideally they will be some kind of journalist and will go to you with questions, etc. You also have to be willing to go up to people and talk confidently, etc.

Your math skills will be much less important and shouldn't prevent you from working in this field.

Yes. Public relations is a broader term, referring to managing relations between an organization and its publics. This could involve publicity, but it may also cover things like event management and public service. Media relations, on the other hand, is the relationship between an organization and the media. This facilitates publicity, but it doesn't get into any of the broader efforts to connect with the publics which do not use the media.
